NOAC Degree Requirements
The Au.D. curriculum is a continuous 45-month post-baccalaureate course of study designed to integrate classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences. All students will attend full-time and take the same courses in appropriate sequence. The emphasis of the program is on the principles and practices underlying evaluation, treatment, and provision of hearing care services.
For progression and graduation, students must meet the following degree requirements:
Maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0
Complete a minimum of 120 semester credits
Accrue 2000 clock hours of clinical experience
Meet the requirements for Ohio licensure in Audiology
Pass academic and clinical competency-based examinations

Year 1: Fall Semester
SLPA 701 UA/ SPA 70701 KSU Basic & Applied Physical Acoustics in Audiology. Study of physical acoustics, basic electricity, and electronics, as well as principles, methodology, calibration, and maintenance of audiologic equipment. (4 credits)
SLPA 702 UA/ SPA 70702 KSU Anatomy and Physiology of the Peripheral Auditory and Vestibular Systems. A study of the anatomy, biophysics, and physiology of the auditory and vestibular systems. (4 credits)
SLPA 703/ SPA 70703 KSU Speech Acoustics and Speech Perception. Study of the nomenclature, acoustics, measurement, and perception of speech sounds, and their impact and interpretation in audiology. (2 credits)
SLPA 704 UA/ SPA 70704 KSU Critical Analysis of Research in Audiology I. General introduction to the research process with an emphasis on acquiring a reading knowledge of research and an ability to evaluate research. (2 credits)
SLPA 727 UA/ SPA 70627 KSU Multicultural Issues in Audiology. An introduction to Deaf Culture, and other cultures, and the audiologists’ roles and responsibilities in planning treatment with members of differing cultural backgrounds. (2 credits)
SLPA 752 UA/ SPA 74592 KSU Clerkship I. Introduction to clinical practicum in Audiology. Directed observation of clinical practice including audiologic diagnosis and audiologic rehabilitation are required. (1 credit)

SLPA 705 UA/ SPA 70705 KSU Auditory Disorders. Study of conditions/diseases that can affect the auditory system. (2 credits)
SLPA 706 UA/ SPA 70706 KSU Anatomy and Physiology Underlying Neuro-Otology. An in-depth study of the anatomy and physiology of the central auditory and vestibular nervous systems. (Includes 1 hour lab) (4 credits)
SLPA 707 UA/ SPA 70707 KSU Psychoacoustics. Study of the principles, procedures, and research of psychoacoustics; the relationships between the physical dimensions of auditory stimuli and the resultant perceptual experience with normal and impaired hearing. (3 credits)
SLPA 708 UA/ SPA 70708 KSU Critical Analysis of Research in Audiology II. Development of a reading knowledge of research and the ability to evaluate the quality of research studies. (2 credits)

SLPA 713 UA/ SPA 70713 KSU Hearing Aid Technology. Study of amplification systems for the hearing impaired. (4 credits)
SLPA 717 UA/ SPA 70717 KSU Pediatric Audiology. Study of audiologic diagnostic and auditory habilitative protocols for the birth to 3 population. Both assessment and management strategies will be emphasized. (3 credits)
SLPA 719 UA/ SPA 70719 KSU Counseling in Audiology. Focus on interviewing, counseling and interacting with individuals with hearing impairments, their families, and significant others. (3 credits)
SLPA 755 UA/ SPA 76792 KSU Internship II. Supervised clinical practicum in audiology during which students will perform discrete clinical tasks while under supervision. (1 credit)

SLPA 715 UA/SPA 70615 Central Auditory Processing: Evaluation and Management. Study of audiologic evaluation and habilitation/rehabilitation procedures for people having central auditory disabilities. (2 credits)
SLPA 725 UA/ SPA 70725 KSU Medical Management of Auditory Disorders. A study of the multidisciplinary approach to medical/surgical management of patients with auditory and vestibular disorders. (2 credits)
SLPA 726 UA/ SPA 70726 KSU Electrophysiological Techniques in Audiology. Study of evoked responses used in diagnostic audiology, including ABR, MLR, EChochG, ENOG, ALR, P300, VER, and SSER. (3 credits)
SLPA 735 UA/ SPA 70753 KSU Laboratory for Electrophysiological Techniques in Audiology. Course will require exercises association with basic auditory evoked potential recordings. (1 credit)
SLPA 760 UA/ SPA 70616 KSU Hearing Aid Fitting and Selection Across the Lifespan. Examination of the theory and practice of fitting hearing aids across the lifespan. Emphasis on special clinical procedures, research needs, and evolving technology in hearing instruments. (4 credits)
SLPA 756 UA/ SPA 70892 KSU Internship III. Supervised practicum in audiology requiring the independent performance of basic audiologic procedures, including hearing aid management. (2 credits)

SLPA 714 UA/ SPA 70714 KSU Gerontological lssues in Audiology. Physiological, psychological, and sociological theories of aging with a focus on the etiology, symptomatology, assessment, and rehabilitation of older adults with hearing impairments. (3 credits)
SLPA 730 KSU/ SPA 70630 KSU Practice Management in Audiology. Study of issues which impact the management of audiological practices, including establishing a private practice, reimbursement, marketing, record keeping and professional liability. (3 credits)
SLPA 757 UA/ SPA 70992 KSU Internship IV. Supervised clinical practicum in audiology requiring the independent performance of diagnostic audiology, hearing aids, and audiologic rehabilitation procedures. (2 credits)
Year 3: Fall Semester
SLPA 721 UA/ SPA 70721 KSU Evaluation and Management of Balance Disorders. Study of the balance mechanism; differential diagnostic assessment of balance disorders including electronystagmography, posturography and rotational testing; rehabilitation of the balance disordered patient. (3 credits)
SLPA 732 UA/ SPA 70732 KSU Audiologic Treatment Across the Lifespan. Study of current methodologies employed in the audiologic treatment of people with hearing loss across the lifespan. Implementation of remedial strategies is emphasized. (4 credits)
SLPA 736 UA/ SPA 70754 KSU Laboratory for Evaluation and Management of Balance Disorders. Course will require laboratory exercises for the assessment of balance disorders including videonystagmography, posturography and informal evaluations, approaches for the rehabilitation and treatment of the balance disordered patient. (1 credit)
SLPA 747 UA/ SPA 70747 KSU Graduate Audiologist I. Supervised clinical practicum in audiology which encompasses audiologic assessments and audiologic (re)habilitation. (3 credits)
Year 3 Spring Semester
SLPA 734 UA/ SPA 70734 KSU Principles of Precepting. Examination of the concepts and practices essential to the preceptor role. Emphasis on professional standards, adult learning theories, communication styles, ethical principles, and multiple roles of a preceptor (educator, role model, mentor, facilitator, and evaluator). (1 credit)
SLPA 737 UA/ SPA 70755 KSU Laboratory for Advanced Electrophysiologic and Vestibular Measures. Course will require laboratory exercises associated with advanced balance function assessment and management and auditory evoked and event related potentials used in diagnostic audiology. (1 credit)
SLPA 758 UA/SPA 70618 KSU Implantable Technology. Study of cochlear implants and other implants in children and adults including equipment, candidacy, mapping, and overview of (re)habilitation. (4 credits)
SLPA 761 UA/ SPA 70733 KSU Advanced Electrophysiologic and Vestibular Measures. Advanced considerations in balance function assessment and management and in the study of evoked responses used in diagnostic audiology. (4 credits)
